Chunk 31: The race that stops their nation.
With just under two weeks to go until the big race on 3 November, it’s time to take a close inspection of the field. So let’s giddy up!
Teflon Don - mired by illness, the defending champion has had a far from ideal preparation. Still can’t be counted out completely, but will need an outstanding final finish in less than ideal conditions.
Old Joe - the people’s favourite. In what he has declared will be his third and final race, can he finally get across the line? Well placed, but nervous punters worry whether he has the staying power. Count on experience.
Nudey Rudy - following his showing in the latest Borat film, has clearly seen better days. Time to put out to pasture.
Supreme Court - who could forget their effort in the 2000 race. Will there be a repeat in 2020?
Son of a Don - sired by last year’s champ, a completely unknown quantity. Better odds than his brother, Eric, who seems destined for the glue factory.
Feel the Bern - displayed real form in some of the lead-up races. Won’t win, but picked up many new admirers along the way.
Majority Leader Mitch - can the old grey from Kentucky produce another comeback? Never count him out.
Third Wife - unsighted this entire carnival, the only true international in this field remains something of a mystery. Look for her to make a late showing.
Pretty Fly for a White Guy - the buzz around him is that he’s a bit on the nose. Not his year, but he’ll be back.
Porny Stormy - saddle up, ‘cause away she goes!
Kamala - Old Joe’s popular stablemate has been quietly impressive, running her own race while racking up huge numbers. Could they go 1-2?
I-vana-run-for-president - could she? Not in 2020, but plenty of tipsters are putting good money on her to contend one day.
Hillary - an early scratching.
Hunter the Hunted - Old Joe’s offspring, still can’t escape nagging drug scandal.
Corona - the biggest story this entire year. Almost unbeatable.
Vlad the Impaler - like last year, expect him to have a big say in determining this year’s outcome.
Please gamble responsibly.
